À PROPOS DES AUTEURS

Rik Coolsaet est professeur de kinfolk internationales à l’Université de Gand. De 2006 à 2013, il y a dirigé le Département de Sciences politiques. In der Politikwissenschaft gab es bereits in den fünfziger und sechziger Jahren verschiedene Ansätze, wobei Downs Ökonomische Theorie der Demokratie sicherlich als eine zentrale Grundlage der Gedanken über ein Abfärben der Wirtschaft auf die Politik genannt werden kann. In dieser Arbeit sollen vor allem neuere theoretische Ansätze von Soziologen und Politikwissenschaftlern mit einer Diskursanalyse kombiniert werden, um den derzeitigen Stand solcher Entwicklungstendenzen zu verorten.

Um im Folgenden eine möglichst eindeutige Abhandlung vollziehen zu können, werden zunächst die zentralen Termini Konsum und Demokratie definiert, wobei auch assoziative Begriffe wie Freiheit einbezogen werden. Anschließend sollen in hermeneutischer shape politische Theorien zur ausgewählten Problematik diskutiert und erörtert werden. Dabei dienen die Gedanken Pierre Bourdieus als Ausgangspunkt, auf den weitere Theorien wie etwa von Richard Sennett und jener der Postdemokratie von Colin Crouch mitsamt ihrem Verständnis von Konsum bezogen werden.

Aus dieser Abhandlung sollen aktuelle Kritikpunkte am Verhältnis zwischen Demokratie und Konsum zusammenfassend formuliert werden. Diese bilden wiederum die foundation für den zweiten Abschnitt im Hauptteil dieser Arbeit, in dem eine kritische Diskursanalyse als methodische Grundlage für die Betrachtung der aktuellen politischen Praxis dient. Hierbei werden Äußerungen von Journalisten und Politikern aus dem medialen Diskurs betrachtet, um implizite Gleichstellung von Konsum und Wahlverhalten im Sprachgebrauch oder beispielsweise auch Argumentationsstrukturen für eine vermeintliche Notwendigkeit von zunehmendem Konsum aufzudecken. Daraus sollen abschließend Handlungspraktiken und gesellschaftliche Konventionen innerhalb des Diskurses über Demokratie und Konsum abgeleitet werden. Im letzten Teil der Arbeit soll das Ergebnis der Diskursanalyse auf die zuvor diskutierten politischen Theorien bezogen werden, um diese an Beispielen aus der politischen Praxis zu verifizieren bzw. zu falsifizieren.
