Die in diesem Rahmen erschlossene Befundsituation ist als Beispiel besonders geeignet, da die Grabung Warendorf auf Grund der ausgedehnten Untersuchungen auf weit mehr als 20.000 m2 mit einer Vielzahl von vollständig untersuchten Gebäudestrukturen sowie daraus rekonstruierbaren Gehöftgruppen für die deutsche Siedlungsarchäologie des Mittelalters als durchaus wegweisend gelten kann. Der überwiegende Teil des früheren Siedlungsareals wurde bis 1959 unter der Leitung von W. WINKELMANN von der lokalen Denkmalpflege untersucht.
